We are a Splatsin First Nation non-profit organization whose mandate is to be an early learning and teaching centre that incorporates the Splatsin language and culture into our programming for children aged 0-12 years old, parents, family, and community.
We were formerly known as the Splatsin Child Care Society. Our Kia7as (kee-yah-ahs) wanted us to change our name. They said that we do teaching for the whole community not just the children. They wanted us to be called the learning centre but there is no english equivalent in our Splatsin language so they settled on the name "The Splatsin Tsm7aksaltn (Splatsin Teaching Centre) Society. We have had the name change in place since June 2009.
We are a community hub of services offering provincially licensed group child care, Aboriginal Infant Development, parent workshops, dental varnishing for children, parent drop in groups, car seat loan program, resource library for parents.
We also offer and enhanced child care programming such as yoga, dance, music, language and culture and full hot meals for children.
Our Society has been providing quality child care since 1990. In 2008, we exanded our current child care facility so we could care for 63 children. This included an expansion to the Infant Toddler Programs for 0 to 3 years and our Kia7as Language Nest.
